As I had a blog and a website already, I wasn’t sure if I even needed a WordPress site, but I knew I needed to do something, as neither site seemed to be doing anything in real terms for my business.
David suggested consolidating the best content from my blog into a new business site and helped me shape and form my ideas into a dynamic set of pages that I could add to later.
He also helped me quickly get going with the WordPress admin, giving me complete autonomy in publishing my own content regularly. I remember the feeling – it was like being let loose, free to write whenever and however I wanted to. It was so quick and easy to use compared to publishing my site via iWeb or html.
I’ve had the Room on the Edge site for just over a year now and it’s been so much more than just a site – in a way, the site itself has been a valuable coaching tool for my business! Back then, I’d only just started coaching and was unclear about what I had to offer, what my target market was, and where I wanted to take it all. The categories I’ve created tell the story about where my strengths and interests lie – the tag cloud shows where my current focus is and the posts themselves are now a rich archive of valuable tips and questions that my clients can browse through, really giving them a sense of who I am and what my coaching is all about.
Also, the site has allowed me to explore new areas. When my clients took a break in the summer, David worked alongside me for a few sessions to teach me how to record my own podcasts. I started interviewing people whose work I admired – people who inspired me. It’s been amazing – I get to chat to people about their work and make great content for visitors to my site at the same time! I’ve had great feedback from many of them. Also, I’ve extended my network of colleagues exponentially – all via Skype (basic technology) and without leaving my home office.
The best thing about working with David is that he’s always coming up with suggestions for how to get more from your site, or extend your range or give more value to your clients. Last month, he suggested I kick the podcasts up a gear to allow more people to listen to the calls and within 24 hours, the whole archive of calls were available on the iTunes site, which in turn has brought more traffic to my website. I know David keeps very up to date with the latest WordPress developers, themes and plugins, so I feel confident that if there’s something that could help me in my online businesses, he’ll tell me about it.
To summarize, with David’s technical skills and guidance, I now have a website and integrated blog that fully reflects my business right now and that connects me with my clients and future clients in a way I just couldn’t do before; it’s a site that I can grow and manage by myself as and when I choose to; and for me, it’s now a pleasure, rather than a chore, to add to it, edit it or plan what’s coming next…
